Hiyaaa! My name's Aisha, I was in my second year of Psychology when I had the privilege of fulfilling the Treasurer position. Since then, I have finished Honours and have worked with children with various developmental concerns and now talk about how to implement effective mental health initiatives in early learning centres for a living! I have always had a huge passion for all things social justice, human rights - regardless of gender, sexuality, race or other constructs. My interaction with the BIPOC department throughout my university career supported me to acknowledge through writing and reflection (two things I love!) that the colour of my skin truly has held me back. Once I accepted that I was the main person in fuelling this process, I was able to build my confidence and truly form my personality beyond shy. These were aspects of my identity I truly wouldn’t have been able to explore without BIPOC and for that, I am forever grateful. It’s also an ongoing process... one I like to explore at the beach – the waves are calming and they never stop (just as love for self should be unconditional and unwavering despite what silly things you or others think or say! ❤️❤️
