Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of this land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge that this land was stolen and sovereignty was never ceded. We welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our Collective and commit to standing with our First Nations people.

Officer Report

  1. Goal Setting

    • Working on goals for the past few weeks and will continue over the break.

  2. Bush Week Events for Next Semester

    • General BIPOC mixer organized by BASC.

    • Bonfire collaboration with all departments.

    • Another BIPOC Base event, possibly speed friending.

    • Consideration of Department Fete and Market Day; limiting to two events.

  3. Women’s Health Matters - Raffy (Gen Rep)

    • Request for help in organizing and running a free health info event:

      • Booking a room.

      • Advertising.

      • Liaising with Women's Health Matters representative.

    • Emalisa volunteered to help.

    • Action: Send follow-up to Raffy.

  4. Potential RRU Collaboration

    • Amber from RRU reached out for a collaboration to develop an anti-racism Wattle module.

    • Volunteers: Maitrey, Selena, Chia, and Youngseo.

    • Agreed that a Wattle module may not be the most effective approach.

  5. Women’s Revue Collab

    • Potential talent show/fundraiser collaboration with all departments, fundraising for a Palestinian women’s fund.

    • Action: Selena to request a meeting for further information, likely will only advertise.

  6. Indigenous Department Panel

    • Rescheduled to next semester.

  7. Ball Planning

    • Meeting with Rex scheduled for Thursday at 12:30 PM.

    • Meeting with Indigenous Department to be scheduled before the break.

  8. ABC Media Statement

    • Reached out for BIPOC to give a media statement regarding the encampment.

    • Decision: No statement to be given regarding the encampment.

  9. Student Forum Meeting

    • Did not attend the meeting.

    • Plan to nudge Phoenix to flag the lack of attendance from department members, questioning productivity.

  10. Ursula Hall Update

    • Meeting with Heads of Halls scheduled for next Thursday at 11 AM.

  11. Honoraria

    • Working on it with Precious.

  12. BIPOCWrapped with Aleesya

    • Current Ideas:

      • Amount of drinks bought at Chai n Chats.

  13. Panel Speaking

    • Speaking at a panel, link provided.

  1. Zine for The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

    • Request for the Script Fund placed, results expected next week.

    • CanPrint needs five working days for printing, aiming for 15th July (a week before Bush Week).

    • Actions:

      • Chia to send follow-up to Woroni.

      • Emalisa to add fundraiser pictures to zine.

    • Up to date on receipts, except for three:

      • Two may be for gifts bought during the Palestinian Panel for the speakers.

      • One for Paria’s AdobePro receipt.

    • Honoraria emails sent out, most details collected.

    • All payments are up to date, including Asil.

Social Officer Report

  1. Ball Planning

    • Once the contract with Rex is signed, planning will begin.

    • Need to brainstorm themes.

    • Consider reducing frequency of Chai n Chats and reallocating resources.

    • Suggestion to create a new event after Collective meetings with food to increase attendance.

    • Action: Reviewing safe space policy with Precious.
