Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. Emphasis on sovereignty never being ceded.

Officer Reports

  1. Officer Report

    • BIPOC Safe Space:

      • Sign-ups have doubled, indicating high interest.

      • Upcoming meeting with President and James to discuss next steps.

      • Concerns about being heard by the university, referencing the lack of response to the racism report.

    • SRC Meeting:

      • Dorcas and Paria from ANUSA attended.

      • Discussion on past and ongoing issues of racism.

    • Academic Collaboration:

      • History lecturer interested in collaborating on racism issues.

    • Committee Applications:

      • Applications open next week; logistics are being finalized.

    • Week 4 Collaboration:

      • Event with ANU Dance Club featuring Classical Chinese and Bollywood dance.

    • Coffee Catch-Up: Scheduled for tomorrow morning.

    • Rewriting the Constitution due to vague nomination requirements and legal complications.

    • Department has funds, pending trusteeship to access accounts.

    • Increased budget allocation for events this year, no rollover funds.

    • Planning Autonomous Alternatives and Chai ‘n’ Chats every fortnight.

    • Logistics for a Y2K party underway.

    • Opening social committee to plan events.

    • Exhibition in Semester 2 under the theme of safe spaces, aiming to launch a zine simultaneously.

  5. Advocacy Officer Report

    • Plans for a BIPOC speaker on safe spaces and a multimedia presentation in Semester 1 Term 2.

    • Safe Space zine and exhibition to culminate at the end of Semester 2.

    • Encouragement to share petition and submit ideas via Google form.

Other Business

  • Catering for the exhibition will feature cultural food from BIPOC businesses and Indigenous catering, thanks to a bigger budget.
