Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. Emphasis on sovereignty never being ceded.

Officer Report

  1. Ball Reflection

    • Event was a great success with positive feedback.

    • No cleaning fee received yet; noted issues with attendees throwing up (blamed on bartenders).

    • Decorations were beautiful and no decorator was hired.

    • Thanks extended to the exec and volunteers.

  2. Safe Space Update

    • Received another apology from James; awaiting information on bathroom renovations.

  3. SGM/Protest Update

    • Considering Week 9 for the protest as it's the earliest possible time.

    • Report work will continue during mid-semester break.

  4. Upcoming Events

    • Safe Scenes Opening Night: Scheduled for September 15th, with discussions on live acts and performances.

    • Women’s X BIPOC X Indigenous Feminist Consciousness Raising Circle:* Right after the meeting for BIPOC women/non-binary individuals.

    • Collab with DSA for Spoons Week: Open to suggestions, possibly including Chai ‘n’ Chats or a movie night.

    • EthnoCon: Scheduled for September 21-23 in Sydney at UNSW, includes workshops and discussions on BIPOC department activities.

    • Reviewing Safe Scenes submissions and emailing outcomes.

    • ACT Health Youth Consultation: Seeking ideas for primary health services affecting young people, noting concerns about medical services on campus.

Secretary Report

  • Upcoming constitutional changes; members encouraged to bring friends to ensure quorum for passing changes.

Treasurer Report

  • Emphasized the need to spend all funds this year as they will not roll over.

  • Suggested investments include the safe space, BASC, and Safe Scenes as the last big event.

Social Officer Report

  1. Ball Reflection

    • Event was incredible.

    • Considering a feedback form to improve future events.

  2. Upcoming Events

    • Resuming Chai ‘n’ Chats and Autonomous Alternatives after the current week.

    • Open to ideas for new events.

    • Planning a Jump-In movie night.

    • Encouragement to attend as it coincides with Chanel’s birthday.

    • Numerous submissions received, detailed planning to begin now that the ball is over.
