Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respects to Elders past, present, and emerging. Emphasis on sovereignty never being ceded.

Officer Reports

  1. Event Recap: ANU Dance Club

    • Received positive reviews and was very enjoyable.

    • Plans to hold more such events.

  2. First Year Rep

    • Welcomed Angelina as the new First Year Rep.

    • Plans to organize multiple events.

  3. Committees

    • Open for new members.

    • Useful for future event organization.

    • Casual commitment, flexible participation.

    • Join via the BIPOC organizing page by emailing Chanel.

  4. Safe Space Campaign Updates

    • Petition is progressing well.

    • Meeting with ANU postponed for the fourth time.

    • Plan to involve media if ANU rejects the petition.

    • Currently affected by NSSS results.

    • No set timeline, pending discussion with ANU.

  5. Advocacy Updates with PhD Students

    • RSSS students interested in a panel to discuss academic experiences and provide advice to BIPOC students.

    • Panel aligns with advocacy campaign.

    • PARSA lacks a BIPOC Department/Rep, so post-grad students can use this space.

Secretary Report

  • Working on the Safe Space Policy when time permits.

  • Collaborating with Ben Yates (ANUSA Gen Sec) to make SRC/General Meetings more accessible and supportive of marginalized voices.

Treasurer Report

  • Confirmed available funds.

  • BASC held its first event focusing on forming Black friendships.

Social Officer Report

  1. Y2K Party at Sideway

    • Scheduled for Sunday, 15th May.

    • Details forthcoming, aiming for subsidized tickets.

  2. Autonomous Alternatives (24/3)

    • Paint by numbers activity.

    • Scheduled from 6:30-8 PM.

    • Flexible participation for study or relaxation.

    • Venue: Marie Reay 4.03.

  3. Chai ‘n’ Chats

    • Tentatively planned for next week.

Advocacy Officer Report

  • Contacting art galleries for the campaign launch/exhibition.

  • Aiming for free venue hire.
