Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of this land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge that this land was stolen and sovereignty was never ceded. We welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our Collective and commit to standing with our First Nations people.

Officer Report

  1. Palestine Movie Night

    • Low turnout (2 attendees), but those present had a good time.

  2. Palestine Chalk Mural

    • Successful event with good turnout; a beautiful mural now outside the BIPOC Base.

  3. Palestine Protest Walkover

    • Scheduled for this Saturday.

  4. Palestine DJ Fundraiser

    • Confirmed for Week 8, 26th April at Sideway.

    • Venue hire fee waived.

    • Need EOI for BIPOC DJs, artists, photographers, and general volunteers.

    • Charity: PARA.

  5. Palestine Panel

    • Date change needed due to a Jewish holiday.

    • Confirmed speakers: Miriam.

  6. BIPOC Ball

    • Confirmed date: 16th August.

    • Need to sign contract and confirm with Indigenous Department.

  7. Dem Soc Protest

    • Dem Soc's event canceled due to protest fears.

  8. Ursies Report Update

    • DoS (Jenny) reached out to the Head of Hall for a meeting; currently on leave until mid-week.

  9. Meeting with Indigenous Dept about Panel

    • Scheduled for Week 10, Tuesday, 7th May from 5:30 PM to 8:15 PM.

    • Discussing ISD's contribution.

  10. Disclosure Training for BIPOC Reps at Res Halls

    • Potential dates: Three sessions across Weeks 8 and 9.

    • Extended to other reps and departments.

  11. Safe Space

    • Access granted to 115 students.

    • Feedback form available at BIPOC Base.

    • Art contribution poster.

    • Pending: panel heating, pads/tampons.

    • Need to do a snack run, possibly after the break.

  12. BIPOC Talks + Zine

    • Updates and ongoing plans.

  13. Office Hours

    • Wednesdays, 3-4 PM at BIPOC Base.

Secretary Report

  • Library stocktake still pending.

Treasurer Report

  1. Funding:

    • Invoice to be sent to Will for an additional $10,000 funding.

    • $250 allocated each to BASC and First Year reps.

    • Mid-year financial report upcoming; need to ensure all receipts are collected.

  2. Pending Payments:

    • Indigenous Department for O-Week.

    • Woroni funding request for Zine printing.

    • ANUSA funding request for mural.

    • Payment to Asil for O-Week (waiting on invoice).

    • Investigate money owed from 2020.

    • Invoice Indigenous Department for 2023 BIPOC Ball.

Social Officer Report

  1. Zine:

    • Digitally published on Thursday.

    • Emalisa to reformat over the break for printing suitability.

  2. Palestinian Fundraiser:

    • Sideway confirmed venue fee waiver.

    • EOI for volunteers to be posted tomorrow.

  3. Ball:

    • Considering different locations due to pricing.

    • Need to look at funding options for alcohol packages.

    • Possible increase in ticket prices.

    • Selling merch during Selena’s office hours and at events like BIPOC Talks and Chai n Chats.

Advocacy Officer Report

  1. Prayer Room on Campus:

    • Project started by Paria last year; investigating existing spaces and areas needing improvement.

  2. 2023 Racism Report Documentary:

    • Team working on reviewing footage, aiming for completion by the end of Semester 1.

    • ANUSA lawyers to review for defamation by early May.

  3. 2024 Racism Report:

    • Considering a survey, promoting it during Bush Week.

Publicity Officer Report

  1. Event Clarification:

    • Ensuring autonomous events are properly communicated.

    • EOI form for Palestinian Fundraiser to go out tomorrow.

BASC Officer Report

  1. First Official Event:

    • Chai and Chats.

    • Discussing future event plans, including a potential Bush Week mixer as a fundraiser for the Ball.
