Acknowledgement of Country
The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples, and pays respect to their Elders past, present, and emerging.
Key Updates and Action Items:
1. BIPOC Base Mural Defacement:
The mural at BIPOC Base was defaced, and CCTV footage is available. Selena is meeting with the Deputy VC for an incident report.
Options include re-doing the mural under the theme of anti-racism or anti-bigotry, passing a motion for ANUSA to make a statement, or the BIPOC Department releasing its own statement.
2. Racism Documentary Response:
A comprehensive response has been received regarding the Racism Documentary, with a clear plan of action.
Selena and Maitrey will meet with the Deputy VC on Friday to discuss further.
3. BASC Mixer:
The BASC Mixer is confirmed for Week 8, and most details are finalized. KB is working on confirming the food and photographer and will print posters for the event.
The venue has offered discounted drinks, with $10 for basic drinks and $15 for cocktails.
4. Moodboard/Zine Event:
The Moodboard Night event is scheduled for Week 9, Tuesday at 5 PM, at the BIPOC Base, and is autonomous to BIPOC students. Supplies and promotions are being organized.
The graphic has been created, and a registration form will be posted to estimate attendance.
5. Elections for 2025 Executive:
Nominations for the 2025 executive team will open soon, and elections for the officer positions will be held in Week 10, with the rest of the exec positions in Week 11.
A motion was passed to amend the constitution to allow the exec team discretion over the nomination period length, with a minimum of one week.
6. Publicity Updates:
The Moodboard and BASC event graphics are completed, and election graphics are in the works. The election posts will go live once the nomination forms and website updates are confirmed.
7. Additional Updates:
The Treasurer is following up on payments for the West Papua panellists.
The application for the Woroni Script Fund for Shé has been filed.
Next Steps:
Finalize event details for the BASC Mixer and Moodboard Night, including catering, decorations, and equipment.
Confirm and publicize the election process for the 2025 executive team.
Continue discussions regarding the BIPOC Base mural defacement and plan next steps for addressing the incident.
