Acknowledgement of Country

The ANU BIPOC Department acknowledges the traditional owners of this land, the Ngunnawal and Ngambri peoples. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present, and emerging. We acknowledge that this land was stolen and sovereignty was never ceded. We welcome all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our Collective and commit to standing with our First Nations people.

Officer Report

  1. Palestine Fundraiser

    • Scheduled for this Friday.

    • Tickets sold out, raised $2,000.

    • Additional tickets will be sold at the door.

    • Aleesya to post updates; Selena to confirm door closing times.

    • Thanks to all volunteers!

  2. Dr Karo Panel

    • Scheduled for next Tuesday at 6 PM, Ursula Hall.

    • Topic: Racism and Sexual Assault and Harassment (SASH).

  3. SRC

    • Last Wednesday's meeting highlights:

      • All exec members got a shoutout in the BIPOC Baddie section.

      • Received $9,000 additional funding (asked for $7K, got an extra $2K).

      • Need to balance figures; Selena to check with ANUSA treasurer.

  4. Mental Health Taskforce

    • Coffee catch-up was informative.

    • Decision for Selena to leave the taskforce unless tangible work is assigned.

    • Attending the next meeting to finalize the decision.

  5. Anti-Racism Taskforce

    • Investigating outcomes of last year’s taskforce.

  6. Ursula Hall Report Update

    • Met with Jenni (Dean of Students) on Thursday, 18th April.

    • Next meeting scheduled for 2nd May to finalize steps.

  7. Palestine Chalk Mural

    • Legal advice: no enforcement rights on the wall.

    • ANU Security reviewing CCTV footage.

    • Options if a perpetrator is identified:

      • Formal pathway via Dean of Students.

      • Anonymous apology.

      • Letter sent to ANU security.

      • No action.

    • Decision to be made next week when Emalisa & Precious are present.

  8. Palestine Protest Walkover

    • Scheduled for Saturday, 20th April.

  9. Disclosure Training for BIPOC Reps at Res Halls

    • Delays due to lack of response from SSW.

    • Rescheduled to Bush Week in Semester 2.

  10. Indigenous Panel

    • Still securing a venue.

    • Selena to follow up with Faith.

  11. Indigenous Dept x Ball

    • Need to discuss finances with the Indigenous Department.

    • Important to sign a contract with Rex Hotel soon.

  12. BIPOC Base

    • Feedback form available at BIPOC Base.

    • Access granted to 118 students.

    • Pending tasks:

      • Contact ANU about panel heaters.

      • Register with Share the Dignity for pads/tampons (Maitrey to assist).

      • Organize snack run and check costs with Chia.

    • Office hours: Wednesdays from 3-4 PM at BIPOC Base.

Secretary Report

    • Up and running; check-out form available on the bookshelf.

  2. Volunteers

    • Compiling a list of volunteers for records.

Treasurer Report

  1. Ball Costs

    • Approximate cost: $8,700.

    • BIPOC to contribute 50%, the rest from ticket sales.

    • Indigenous department not covering alcohol costs (approx. $7,000).

    • Selena to discuss increased costs with Paria.

    • Meeting with Indigenous Department to finalize funding.

  2. Zine

    • Not completed yet.

  3. Costco vs Aldi

    • Costco identified as cheaper for bulk items.

Social Officer Report

Advocacy Officer Report

  1. Advocacy Committee Meeting

    • Discussing roles and goals of the committee.

    • Ideas: Education panels on various themes, racism report, increasing visibility of BIPOC Base.

    • Next meeting TBC.

  2. Palestine Panel

    • Coordinating questions for panellists.

    • Need help with registration on the day of the event.

  3. Documentary 2023

    • Paria now has access to Premier Pro and is set up for editing.

Publicity Officer Report

  1. Engagement

    • Good engagement with Palestine panel posts.

    • Final post for Palestine Fundraiser scheduled.

    • Bios for Palestine Panels to be posted.

    • Google form used for event graphics submissions.

BASC Officer Report

  1. Meeting with Lodge BIPOC Rep

    • Finalizing an event for next semester.

    • Study group event planned for Week 10, Wednesday at BIPOC Base.

  2. Afro Jams

    • Scheduled for 4th May (Saturday), 7 PM pres at Badger.

First Year Officer Report

    • Successful with 20 attendees.
